21.05.2003   Allegrini Family Wine Festival

From May 26 to June 1 the osteria PANTAGRUEL together with the company DOLMART UKRAINE will be holding an Allegrini Family Wine Festival - one of the most noted wine producing dynasties in Italy. Allegrini are the founders of wine producing traditions in the Valpolicella Classico area (north-east of Italy). In fact in 1557 Allegriano Allegrini managed to acquire the right to use a number of springs in the municipality of Fumane and created a real system of artificial irrigation within his land. Giovanni Allegrini was the founder of the new wine producing generation. In 1960 - 80s Valpolicella experienced a real Renaissance of local wine producing due to Giovanni's persistence and consistency.

The famous Amarone della Valpolicella is produced solely in this area - a wine that possesses unique aromatic and flavour features and therefore is called in Italian "vino da meditazione", i.e. "wine for meditation". It is made with grapes that are dried after the vintage for several weeks and up to 3-4 months. Recioto della Valpolicella is no less famous - a sweet wine that is produced according to technologies similar to those of Amarone, the difference being that the drier grapes enable the fermentation process to finish, leaving the wine with some natural sugars.

But the real jewel in the crown of Allegrini Family is La Poja. The grapes used for the production of this wine are really exclusive - only the top of the Grola mount is capable of producing worthy La Poja grape bunches. Allegrini have managed to produce wine that perfectly combines strength, richness, freedom and ability to enhance the Corvina elegance.

As usual the osteria chef Constantino Passalaqua will organize a special menu, the courses of which will match perfectly the proposed wines. Well-informed sources promise some interesting gastronomic surprises.

20.05.2003   New Season of Wine Festivals!

May 26 is the day of the new Wine Festival Season opening held together by osteria PANTAGRUEL and DOLMART UKRAINE. During the days of the Festival one can taste the Great Wines of Italy "by the glass", listen to the opinions and recommendations of the specialists and also compliment the wine tasting with dishes of special menu from the osteria chef Constantino Passalaqua. Taking into account the large demand for the Festivals last year and their success with the participants (Gaja, Antinori etc.) the organizers have made a program for several months.

26.5 - 1.6                      Allegrini (Veneto) wines
27.6 - 4.7                     Fontanafredda (Piedmont) wines
28.7 - 3.8                     Super Tuscan wines
5.9 - 12.9                     Planeta wines (Sicily)
10.10 - 17.10                Brunello di Montalcino (Tuscany)
28.11 - 05.12                Antonio Argiolas wines (Sardinia)

If in 2002 the participants of the Festivals, after tasting a glass of Tignanello or Barbaresco ordered a glass of Solaia or Sperss, this year in May beginning with Soave or Valpolicella one will be able to turn to the famous Amarone and finish the tasting with rare sweet Recioto della Valpolicella.

So, on with the "tasty Italian classes"!

20.06.2002   A Week of Antinori wines and Tuscan cuisine
The Successful May festival of Piedmont wines has inspired the duet "Dolmart-Pantagruel" to undertake a new wine-gastronomic event: A Week of Tuscany. Starting with 28th of June and until 7th of July sybarites with Italian flavor will have an opportunity to try great wines from the famous Florentine winemaker Antinori accompanied by classical Tuscan dishes prepared by Pantagruel"s Chef Costantino Passalacqua.

Twenty-six generations of the Marchesi Antinori family -- one of less than a handful of families to produce and market wine uninterruptedly for six centuries -- have produced remarkable wines since 1385. The family"s unique amalgam of centuries" old Tuscan and Umbrian tradition with modern innovation has made Antinori the premier wine-producing family of Italy for over 600 years. In fact, Antinori continually experiments in its vineyards and at its wineries, with clonal selection of indigenous and international grape varieties, cultivation, vineyard altitudes, fermentation methods and temperatures, traditional and modern vinification techniques, wood barrel types, sizes and ages, and varying lengths of bottle age.

Come and discover the world of Chianti Classico and Super Tuscans accompanied by Tuscan food...

20.05.2002   You have a chance to try Gaja"s wines
Finally, for the first time in Kiev, all wine lovers have the opportunity to try the wines of Angelo Gaja. Angelo Gaja, the 61 year old reigning prince of Piedmont, almost single-handedly put Piedmont on the fine wine map. Since taking over the family winery in the late 1960s, Gaja has helped to transform the once-sleepy old-fashioned region of Barbaresco into a center of adventurous Italian wine-making and turned Nebbiolo into a popular grape. Into this fiercely conservative area, full of fascinating grape varieties, Gaja also introduced the great French grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay as stand-alone varietals, a radical move in the region. Never content to rest on his laurels, he has acquired an estate in Barolo and in 1996 invested in Bolgheri in Tuscany. His goal, it seems, is to make his mark in a wide variety of wine styles. To that end, Gaja has helped to internationize Italian wine, hauling it into the modern era through timeless promotion, research, experimentation and skillful marketing. Yet he has preserved his wines" unique Italian character. In 1997, Angelo Gaja earned the Wine Spectator Distinguished Service Award.

Only from the 20th until the 30th of May you have a chance to try Gaja"s wines by the glass. Pantagruel"s Chef Costantino Passalacqua will prepare authentic dishes of Piemontese cuisine to match the wines. Note, that every evening from 7 p.m. the wine guru will answer your questions and will help you to choose the one.
